about

This is Isaac Turner's first solo album. He is in a whole bunch of bands, including Out, Wowza in Kalamazoo, handturner, The Kalamazoo Drone Society, New Standards Men, Three Grebes, Straphanger, Something Tough, Minutes, and good lord there's gotta be one he's forgetting here, sorry.

This was whittled down from about 40 songs, all of which were recorded over the last couple of years. The idea here is to have a limitation while recording (namely, using a shitty cell phone). He wanted to make this album on his old four track (actually a three track!), but it crapped out hard, so this was the compromise.

"I grew up on a grand prairie, and for the last decade I’ve lived on another Grand Prairie.

I was walking in a field one summer day, I think it was 1985. Musta been 100 degrees outside and I was getting dizzy from the heat. I had my bb gun and every gopher tail was worth a quarter from the dude who owned the land. I found a well in the middle of a field surrounded by many gravestones, each of a child who’d died in 1918 or 1919. Maybe fifty of them. Buzzards wheeled between me and the sun. To my right about ten yards away was a rockpile with the bones of cattle bleached by the sun atop it, extinction-level amount of ‘em.

I ran the water over my head and drank from the well and have yet to taste anything like that in my life. I didn’t make any money that day."

Recorded and mixed by Ike on his phone at The Mudroom. He played all the instruments here except for the saxophone, which Gary recorded in Canada, shit you not.

Mastered (and three songs mixed) by Garth Mason.

Album cover art by Chafe Hensley and Ryan Nelson.

Album cover layout by Eric Fundingsland

One thousand thanks to my comrades in this thing of ours: Franki Hand, Brad Miller, Tobi Jeanne, Zach Hench, Sarah Beauchamp, Chafe Hensley, Randall Davis, Suzanne Erin, Drew Bissel, Bob Bucko, Jr, Gary Gahan from Canada, Brian Orchard and Leah from Chicago for lending an ear, Mark Larmee, Jason Lay, Beth McDonald, Jeremy Brashaw, Brian Schill, Chris Jury, Lindsey in Australia, Ryan Nelson, The Kalamazoo Drone Society, Eric Fundingsland, Jayballs and Kate, Joshua Hensley for a first listen, Garth Mason for all the help here, Faiz and Tree for the daily running commentary, Steve Walsh, and the North Dakota Public School System (District 19) from 1982-1995 for providing daily music education out in the hinterlands and weaponizing this prairie freak to the MAX.

This album is for Millie, Milo, and Mel, my Three M’s. They put up with a lot of nonsense from me at home and should be commended for doing so. Please clap.

He ain't ever gonna play this stuff live, so don't ask about that; instead, ask him for his top five favorite fights to watch when he's upset!!
